Can I Make My Natural Hair Curly?

This is a question I get asked quite a lot.

I don’t normally go with hair types, but the people who ask me are always those whose afro textured hair doesn’t have a natural curl pattern – (4C hair, for the sake of the typists out there!). By this, I mean their natural hair will not form a curl if left alone. Now, before I give a response, I always wonder if people are asking because they want to try something new or it’s something deeper than that and they aren’t happy with their hair type. If it’s the second, then that’s another conversation.

There are many ways to make your hair curly – but it will only be temporary. You may realise every time you style you hair, the usual recommendation is that you dampen it. This is because the hydrogen bonds allow you to temporarily change the shape of your hair with the aid of water and/or heat.

There is nothing that can permanently change the curl pattern of your hair without you adding a form of chemical to it. There are so many gorgeous natural hairstyles you can do to give you different curls that you love.

This list is always growing, so I’ll update it as and when!
